We are delighted to welcome you to the SCSO's third annual Side-by-Side event which will take place Friday, October 19 and Saturday, October 20, 2018, on the campus of Shenandoah University.
The SCSO Side-by-Side brings together top regional and talented young musicians to perform along side our very own talented students from Shenandoah Conservatory. This year the SCSO Side-by-Side orchestra will collaborate with world-renowned and SU alum pianist Alexander Bernstein. We are delighted to have Alexander back at SU this semester as he replaces Prof. John O'Conor during his sabbatical leave.
Two-day intensive rehearsals culminate in a performance on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 4 pm in Armstrong Concert Hall of Giacomo Puccini's Act I Duet from his opera Madama Butterfly and Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 featuring Alexander Bernstein as the soloist.
Acceptance to the event requires music teacher nomination and recommendation of their finest students . Students will be eligible for acceptance based on their musical accomplishments and their teachers' recommendation on their ability to tackle the challenges of the music to be rehearsed and performed.
Shenandoah Conservatory’s gifted and dynamic faculty and guest artists will prepare the students for the Saturday afternoon concert which promises to be an extraordinary musical experience.
Please be sure to follow the "For Teachers and Students" link to learn more about what steps to follow in order to attend this great opportunity available to you. You will find information about the recommendation process, the schedule and other relevant information.
We look forward to seeing and hearing you in October for what promises to be an unique musical event
With my very best wishes,
